Counter Boring and Crowning a Mosin with a Power Drill
Mosin bore was shot out and was unable to hold 6 moa groupings. I used a power drill to get down to fresh rifling and an end mill to cut the new crown. worked great.

Hope I don't get a FUBAR unit. if I hate it, I'll just save up some money for UTG, they make two models, anyone know the difference? No description I've found states much difference? • @iannesby
      @iannesby Місяць тому

      I did not chrono this load due to my tripod giving out after some harsh wind. These should be around 3300fps. The goal of the contest was to use cheap stuff the average gun owner may have. Most people are not using nice barrels on their budget ars. Many other brands are sub moa with my ammo. Ballistic advantage, Daniel defense, KAK. Maybe I'll do barrel testing in the future but this was mainly for Bloke On The Range's contest

    One thing to consider is also seating depth. I would go with the best performing powder and best performing load and then play with different seating depths. Also my advice is that you have the barrel heated up before shooting groups for results - i think that will help with consistency

    • @iannesby
      @iannesby Місяць тому

      @@PolenarTactical I do need to play with the seating depth. I also agree with the preheated barrel. The gun did come from a cold 60° basement to a 97° range. I have acquired 1 lbs of ar-comp and blc-2 to compare as well.

  • @PolenarTactical
    @PolenarTactical Місяць тому

    Great results! I'm amazed that you were able to get such a good grouping without a free floated barrel. Looking at your groups i would say that you definitely have vertical stringing. Did you shoot the last grouping with a very hot barrel? I'm asking because i had similar results with my WWSD with pencil barrel. It was grouping worse when the barrel was still cold and i suspect why - when i started with a cold barrel and it quickly heated up with each shot, there was the most change of POI But after 30-40 rounds the barrel was really hot and i suspect it reached some kind of equilibrium - it was cooling at the same rate as it heated up with slow single shots. So i was able to produce best groupings with my WWSD with a hot barrel.

    • @iannesby
      @iannesby Місяць тому

      @PolenarTactical yes the barrel was hot and was shooting best while around 150°. I do attribute this stringing mostly to the inconsistent velocitys of h335. The 40gn vmax was using g blc-2
